Top Ten Tuesday --- Ten Books I Will Probably Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

There are several books that I'll probably never ever read in my lifetime. The following are ten random books that I probably won't read:

Moby Dick by Herman Melville
Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
The Iliad by Homer
The Odyssey by Homer

The Inferno by Dante Alighieri
Ulysses by James Joyce
The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie
The Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling
The 50 Shades Trilogy by E. L. James
The Quran

So, which books made your list??

  1. I read most of these already myself. Not 50 Shades, but the classics. Though it was for school so they don't count! LOL!

    Here's my Tuesday post

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. Interesting list! I avoid the classics like the plague as I hate that old fashioned style of writing. I like mythology but I think Homer is probably beyond my brain capacity! 50 shades of grey doesn't interest me in the slightest. The only one I've read on your list are the Harry Potter books which I love. It feels weird to think that I had no interest in reading them until a friend at work badgered me into picking them up! It was a lot of fun reading your list!

  3. I'll read RETELLINGS of The Illiad and The Odyssey, but not the actual books...I'm not a masochist, lol (Also why I won't read 50 Shades!). I picked up Ulysses once and almost had an aneurysm. It's a mess! Interesting list!

  4. Great list. If I had made a list this week, most of mine would be classics as well. Moby Dick intimidates me. I have not read Harry Potter and probably won't at this point. I would also add War and Peace. I can't imagine ever reading that one.

  5. I had to read Homer in high school. I am with you 100% on Fifty Shades and the rest of these classics! Great list. Harry Potter is the only one that I have read many, many times and love. :) Don't worry, I have absolutely no interest in Hunger Games, so I know where you are coming from.

  6. I almost put a bunch of classics on my list, but I'm holding out hope I'll read and enjoy them.

  7. I don't plan on reading 50 Shades. I don't plan on reading the classics as I usually don't understand the language.

  8. I haven't read, and probably never will, any of these, except Harry Potter (which I love). I stayed at a hotel once, where they had a copy of the Quran in the room. I tried reading a bit, but some things just made me so mad. :/ Great list though, and thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier. :)

  9. I almost put The Iliad and The Odyssey on my list too, but, only room for 10 :)

  10. No Harry Potter? That's a surprise... most people seem to love the series. I totally get some of the classics on your list, though. Moby Dick sounds so boring...

  11. I forgot The Illiad! I had to read The Odyssey when I was a freshman in high school and hated it! Even though I'm obsessed with mythology! So, I told myself I would NEVER read The Illiad! Don Quixote, I totally understand. BORING! I made it through a couple of chapters when I had to read it in college.

I've only read the first Harry Potter book and I'm not sure if I will continue with the series. Maybe one day.
    great list!

  12. I loved The Inferno, The Illiad, and The Odyssey, and the Harry Potter series - otherwise though I have no plans for picking up the others.

  13. Interesting list! I loved the Harry Potter series, and I plan on reading The Illiad and The Odyssey sometime soon, but the rest I don't plan on reading either. I've read the 50 Shades books, but wish I hadn't.

  14. Not sure if my first comment came thru...Glad to see the 50 shades series on your list, too. I wish I would have thought about the Harry Potter series and The Satanic Verses. Both should be on my list, too :)

  15. Moby-Dick is not something that appeals to me. I was never forced to read it in school, so I'll probably never read it.

  16. Almost everyone today has shunned 50 Shades of Grey. I don't understand how it got so popular to begin with when all these bloggers are avoiding it like the plague. Though I'm not about to read it to find out ;)

  17. I'd like to read something by Rushdie some days though maybe not The Satanic Verses - Midnight's Children maybe? We'll see - the TBR is in fact a mountain. I have read The Illiad and The Odyssey and liked both very much but I'm a Greek Mythology nut so that probably helped with my enjoyment. Definitely with you on Fifty Shades and Moby Dick!

  18. I probably won't read any of those either ;)

  19. Most of those are on my to-read list, but I too will never read Fifty Shades. Nope, not for me. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Moby Dick though.

  20. Moby Dick is so popular this week! An all round uninspiring book!

  21. SO sad to see HP on your list! but i totally understand: to each their own! i have read the Odyssey but i didn't care much for it. I had to read it for a class. and i refuse to read the illiad as a result! great list this week!

  22. I was assigned to read and did read Odyssey and Iliad

    1. And Don Quixote...and I was shamed into reading HP, but the rest are pretty-much a no-go for me, too.

Sorry about the split comment....just stopped typing!

  23. I actually wouldn't mind reading The Iliad and The Odyssey - or at least listening to them. (Ian McKellen read one of the really good translations of The Odyssey, and I keep thinking I should listen to it.) And I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. But other than that, I probably wouldn't read most of the rest of these, either! Maybe Don Quixote... but probably not.

  24. It seems like the 50 Shades books are a popular choice today. :)

Thanks for stopping by Nashville Book Worm.

  25. A few of those are on my to-read list, but I doubt I'll ever get to them either.

  26. I actually like Harry Potter (which surprised me), but I agree with the rest of your list 100%. I read Homer, and don't recommend it.;)

  27. *Gasp!* Harry Potter?
I'm only joking - I can understand why it wouldn't appeal to some people.
I don't think I'll be picking up any of the other books you mentioned.

  28. I've read Fifty Shades and the Harry Potter series and enjoyed them both, but the rest of your list I wouldn't read either.
    Great list!

  29. I've seen Fifty Shades on a lot of people's list! And I will probably never read the books on your list (except for Harry Potter, which I've read years ago).

  30. I probably won't ever read the Fifty Shades series either. It's just not my thing. I hate to say I'll never read a book but there are those books that I just couldn't get through or that I mean to read but they just fall through the cracks. Great list!

  31. Harry Potter should actually be on my list too XD Don't get me wrong, I love the story, and in fact, I read the third and also the last book. But this is the kind of story that for me, I wouldn't like to revisit after watching the movies.

  32. I don't think I'll ever read any of these books either(except Harry Potter!).

    ReplyDelete
  33. I definitely don't see myself reading any of these books either. I know everyone is supposed to love the classics, but I just can't make myself...

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Oddysey was a pain but for some reason I didn't learn my lesson I am still going to try and read the Illiad. :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow, I've actually read a lot of these but of course to each their own. Some for school, but most of them because I wanted to (not that I haven't wanted to read the vast majority of my books for school too). I agree with you on 50SOG though.

I havne't read Moby Dick or Ulysses YET, but some day I will. Maybe when I'm not in school anymore.

    Great list :)

  36. The only ones I've read from this list are the Harry Potter books and the beginning of 50 Shades - I was curious but the writing was so terrible I couldn't make it through. I have seen the HP books on a lot of lists, and I kind of get it. I mean, they're such a part of pop culture at this point and the movies were so good that everyone pretty much knows what happens in them anyway. But I love them. The writing is excellent and the audiobooks read by Stephen Fry are brilliant. If there's one thing on the list I'd reconsider, it's the HPs! Other than that, yeah. Probably not gonna get around to any of the others either!

  37. I have come across a lot of people who haven't read Harry Potter. I love them but I no there not for everyone.

  38. I know someone who tried to read Moby Dick in high school and couldn't get through it. We also read portions of The Odyssey in English class and watched this unintentionally hilarious movie adaptation. Although I find the whole Trojan Cycle somewhat interesting, I think I've read enough of the Odyssey to know that this classic probably isn't for me.

  39. I read five of these already, some of the others are on my wishlist but I doubt I will ever read "50 Shades of Grey"
