Top Ten Tuesday --- Top Ten Best Books Of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

It was really difficult selecting which books were my favorites for 2016 as I read so many books that fell into the 4/5 star category! I have chosen 5 fiction and 5 nonfiction books as follows in no particular order of importance. The links take you to my written review of each book.

1. The Assassination of the Archduke: Sarajevo 1914 and the Romance That Changed the World by Sue Woolmans and Greg King
2. This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor by Susan Wicklund
3. Stoned: Jewelry, Obsession, and How Desire Shapes the World by Aja Raden
4. My Life On The Road by Gloria Steinem
5. Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee
6. The Dispatcher by John Scalzi
7. I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai
8. Flight by Alexie Sherman
9. Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim
10. The Good Traitor by Ryan Quinn

Which books were your favorite ones read for 2016?

  3. I had too many to pick anywhere near ten! I haven't read any of the books on your list but I do enjoy history and have been tempted to read more about the steps to WW1-I loved learning about the wars when I did history at school. Maybe next year!

  4. I really am interested in Stoned as my husband is a gemcutter. I will look for that one.

  5. Wow....I have only heard of two books on your list.

It is difficult to choose, and you were wise to choose five from two different categories. Great idea!!

I love how everyone's list seems to be different with only a few books being similar.

Thanks for coming by my blog.

  10. I read my first Scalzi novel this year, Lock In, and I'll definitely be reading more of his in the future. :)

  11. I love how you included half fiction and half non-fiction! I didn't read nearly as much NF as I wanted this year, but I'm hoping to change that in 2017. I'm super-intrigued by the "Archduke" book after looking it up on Goodreads just now, and "Yellow Crocus" and "I Am Malala" have been on my TBR for ages. Best wishes for a 2017 filled with wonderful books!

  13. I hear conflicting things about Go Set a Watchman, and I think I'm going to have to read it for myself one of these days. Glad you enjoyed it, anyway!

  16. I've heard such mixed takes on Go Set A Watchman...I've got a copy on my Kindle to read later, and I'm looking forward to it a little more hearing that you really loved it!

  17. Malala is such an inpiration - I'm glad you enjoyed her book as much as I did.
When I first heard about Go Set A Watchman I was so excited, but I don't think I'll ever read it because I wouldn't be able to handle the disappointment if it changed how I felt about To Kill a Mockingbird. Nice Post!

  19. I keep meaning to read I Am Malala, I bought it ages ago but haven't read it yet. I have never heard of The Good Traitor but I need to check that out, looks like it might be my kind of book.
