Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop

Best Audiobooks of 2013 Blog Hop
Welcome to the Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop hosted by Hot Listens, The Geeky Blogger and The Book Nympho.

The Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop will run from January 1, 2014 through January 15, 2014.

I've become addicted to listening to audiobooks this year! I've listened to a total of 26 audiobooks in 2013.

I had a difficult time narrowing down my three favorite audiobook choices for 2013 as there were several good books, which I listened to throughout the year.

However, the following three audiobooks really stood out above the rest, so I'm pleased to announce my three favorite audiobooks for 2013 below!!

1. 'Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself' by Lissa Rankin MD

I love this nonfiction book!! It's unabridged and narrated by the author herself. The message given by Lissa Rankin MD is one of EMPOWERMENT--- You can truly heal yourself!

This isn't woo-woo, feel good medicine. Lissa Rankin MD gives YOU the scientific research and all the tools you need to help heal yourself in a clear, concise, and easy to understand manner.

Even if you don't have a current health issue, this book will most likely benefit you in a positive way!!

2. 'The Secret Life of Bees' by Sue Monk Kidd

I loved the storyline and characters of this novel!! It's told through the eyes of a 14 year old girl named, Lily Owens.

What really made this novel come alive for me was the narrator of this novel, Jenna Lamia. I couldn't imagine a better person to read 'The Secret Life of Bees' than Jenna Lamia. She nailed the southern accent! A narrator can make or break my audiobook listening experience... If I don't like a narrator, I won't listen an audiobook period. It's that simple. However,  Jenna Lamia is probably one of the best audiobook narrators I've come across in my audiobook listening experience to date.

3. 'The Girls' by Lori Lansens

This audiobook is a novel about the lives of conjoined twins. At various times throughout my listening experience, I'd have to remind myself that 'The Girls' wasn't really a memoir, but a novel instead.

I enjoyed listening to the alternating view points of the conjoined twins, Ruby & Rose Darlen, as they shared their lives together as conjoined twins. 'The Girls' is read by actresses Stephanie Zimbalist & Lolita Davidovich and they both did a phenomenal performance of reading their roles.

    1. It is so wonderful to see so many book bloggers embracing audiobooks! I've always enjoyed listening to audiobooks, but it wasn't until this year that I truly sought out more audiobooks to listen to instead of reading them.

Happy New Year to you and happy listening. :-)

  5. I completely agree a narrator can make or break a book. There's a series I'd love to read but just can't stand the narrator's voice

  6. Mind Over Medicine, sounds like something I would like to read, I don't think the audiobook will work for me because knowing me I will be highlighting and taking notes. :)
A while back I read The Secret Life of Bees and really liked it. I haven't read/listen to The Girls, but it sounds like a great book.
My favorite audiobooks from last year are: A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and Endless Knight by Kresley Cole. Great books and great narrators.

I did visit your 'Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop' post on your blog and have added Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor to my reading wishlist... I should also add Kresley Cole to my wish list as I also noticed many of the blog hop participants seemed to pick a book by Kresley Cole as one of their favorite audiobooks in 2013.

  7. Thank you so much for being part of the hop!
One of the reasons I'm loving this, is because of the chance I'm getting at discovering titles that wouldn't normally cross my path.
I agree with peeps that mentioned, Mind Over Medicine, it not only sounds interesting, but it looks like I could learn a thing or two.
Your other two choices sound just as interesting.

    Thank you for sharing!
