The Lost Art Of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister

Hardback Edition
A few years ago, I read Erica Bauermeister's novel, The School Of Essential Ingredients and loved this novel! So, when I discovered that The Lost Art Of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister was the follow up novel to The School Of Essential Ingredients, I knew that I had to read it.

I've had The Lost Art Of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister in my massive 'to be read' pile for over 4.5 years now. I am not quite sure why I didn't read this novel a lot sooner when I enjoyed reading The School Of Essential Ingredients so much... Most likely the reason has to do with the fact that I already have so many books waiting to be read in my book collection that I simply put off reading The Lost Art Of Mixing. Additionally, I've kept adding new books to my ever growing 'to be read' pile over the years and somewhere along the way this novel kept being put off.

Anyway, I love Erica Bauermeister's writing as she has a beautiful way with words. How she chooses to describe scenes and people can be very magical. So it was delightful to see this kind of writing once again in The Lost Art Of Mixing. I enjoyed reading The Lost Art Of Mixing, however, I didn't love it as much as I did the The School Of Essential Ingredients.

The following is a book summary for The Lost Art Of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister from Amazon:
National bestselling author Erica Bauermeister returns to the enchanting world of The School of Essential Ingredients in this luminous sequel...
Lillian and her restaurant have a way of drawing people together. There’s Al, the accountant who finds meaning in numbers; Chloe, a budding chef who hasn’t learned to trust after heartbreak; Finnegan, quiet and steady as a tree, who can disappear into the background despite his massive height; Louise, Al’s wife, whose anger simmers just below the boiling point; and Isabelle, whose memories are slowly slipping from her grasp. And there’s Lillian herself, whose life has taken a turn she didn’t expect…
Their lives collide and mix with those around them, sometimes joining in effortless connections, at other times sifting together and separating again, creating a family that is chosen, not given. A beautifully imagined novel about the ties that bind—and links that break—The Lost Art of Mixing is a captivating meditation on the power of love, food, and companionship.
I am giving The Lost Art Of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister a rating of 3 stars our of 5 stars.

Until my next post, happy reading!!

  2. Sounds like a quirky book. Too bad you liked it less than its predecessor.

  3. I think the title really captures what the story is about on its different levels. Has the author written more books after this one?

    1. Yes, the title does capture the story quite nicely... I don't think the author has published anything since The Lost Art of Mixing, but am not 100% sure of that.
