The Vampire's Last Dance by Deanna Chase

 
Generally, I like reading paranormal romances as low key, fun reads, which is one of the reasons why I decided to listen to the unabridged audio version of The Vampire's Last Dance by Deanna Chase and well narrated by Traci Odom. I also chose this novel because it's narrated by Traci Odom and I like listening to books she narrates. It's also a very short read and I wanted to give another novel written by Deanna Chase a try.

Traci Odom's narration is probably the best thing I can say about my experience with The Vampire's Last Dance by Deanna Chase. I didn't care for the writing/storyline/plot development for The Vampire's Last Dance... It's was not very interesting or engaging. I didn't like the characters very much either. With that said, I think I will ditch out on reading any other novelss written by Deanna Chase in the future.

The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling

 

I've found paranormal romance/fantasy to be very hit or miss to be honest. I purchase a lot of my audiobooks these days through Chirp.com as they do not require a subscription like Audible does and Chirp offers several daily deals each day. So, when I noticed the The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling deeply discounted through Chirp's website, I thought why not try this trilogy? After all, I do like paranormal romance/fantasy occasionally, discovering new to me authors, and also the storyline sounded interesting enough... Plus, the average rating for this trilogy is currently 4.3 stars out of 5 stars with 450+ reviewers. So, The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling sounded like a series not to be passed up.

Well, quite frankly, I was disappointed with The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling. The best part of the The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling is that it was well narrated by Piper Goodeve... Let me state that again, the best part of the The Moon Marked Trilogy by Aimee Easterling is that it was well narrated by Piper Goodeve. This trilogy had so much potential!! But I felt it flopped BIG TIME. I can't understand all of the good reviews for this trilogy.

I liked the narration as stated for The Moon Marked Trilogy, along with the premise of this trilogy, and lastly, that it is a paranormal romance. 

However, there was too much senseless drama/action throughout the The Moon Marked Trilogy for the sake of drama/action... It felt like the senseless drama/action was the author's weak attempt to propel the story/plot along. I think there were better ways to develop the storyline than through the endless treadmill of action sequences and drama. I was so bored by the storyline and characters by the end of this trilogy, that I was simply glad it over with.

Additionally, Mai Fairchild's younger sister is a whiny, brat who pitches a fit in most of the scenes we see her in, which grew very old after a while.

As far as paranormal romances go, there was little of it in The Moon Marked Trilogy... There was always the promise that Mai was going to hook up with the alpha werewolf, but there was always something that interfered with their romance until the end of the last novel. Even then, there was little romance to satisfy the reader.

Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy #3) by Anna Banks

 

I have finished the 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy by Anna Banks!! This marks the fourth trilogy I have started and finished in 2021. Now I simply need to finish reading one more trilogy to meet my reading goal of five trilogies for 2021!!

Last month, I listened to the first novel in the 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy. After finishing Of Poseidon by Anna Banks, I wasn't sure I wanted to continue listening to the two remaining novels in this trilogy as I wasn't particularly impressed with the first novel in 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy. However, I am currently very happy that I decided to finish this trilogy after all, as it ended up being very good.

I think what I enjoyed most about 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy was how it evolved over time with each novel sharing a new facet of the storyline with readers to keep them engaged. The first novel in 'The Syrena Legacy', Of Poseidon, introduced readers to Emma and Galen, the back story for each of them, and the story of their romance. Book two, Of Triton, focuses more on Emma's relationship with her mom and more about the Syrena people, plus lots of adventure thrown in... And, of course, more about Emma and Galen's budding romance.

Then, I listened to the unabridged audio version of Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy #3) by Anna Banks and narrated by Rebecca Gibel earlier this month.

Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy #3) by Anna Banks takes us in a new and interesting direction. Both Emma and Galen set off on a much needed vacation alone together. Emma's grandpa suggests that she and Galen visit the small town of Neptune. But Emma's grandpa is really vague on his reasons why he is pointing her and Galen there for exploration. 

We soon learn that the town of Neptune is home to both full blooded Syrena (like Galen) and half human/half Syrena beings (like Emma), which is a surprise revelation to both Emma and Galen. Emma is excited about finding a town filled with half breeds like herself as Emma has been made to feel like an outcast by most of the full blooded Syrena whom aren't keen on half breeds. Galen isn't excited at all about discovering a large number of half breeds... And the fact that one of them named, Reed, is flirting full force with his girlfriend.

Twists and turns abound throughout Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy #3) by Anna Banks that keep the reader engaged. All in all, I really enjoyed reading Of Neptune.

Of Triton (The Syrena Legacy #2) by Anna Banks

 

Right after I finished listening to Of Poseidon (The Syrena Legacy #1) by Anna Banks, I began listening to Of Triton (The Syrena Legacy #2) by Anna Banks and narrated by Rebecca Gibel.

Listening time for Of Triton (The Syrena Legacy #2) by Anna Banks is 7 hours, 52 minutes.

I enjoyed Of Triton (The Syrena Legacy #2) by Anna Banks so much more than I did the first novel in the 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy. I'm glad that I didn't stop after the first novel as Of Triton was so much more captivating. The storyline for Of Triton explored more of the relationship between Emma and her mom, Nalia, and also contained more about the history/world of the Syrena (mermaids) than was discussed in the first novel, Of Poseidon. 

Additionally, Of Triton, focused more on other plot details other than teenage drama/angst like the first novel did, which was a HUGE relief.

I've begun listening to the third and final installment of the 'The Syrena Legacy' trilogy, Of Neptune, today. I look forward to finishing it and reviewing it here on my blog soon.

Alpha Charming by Luna Fabray

 

I enjoy reading books, novellas, and short stories from the paranormal romance genre on occasion. I recently decided to read the ebook edition of Alpha Charming by Luna Fabray, which is a paranormal romance short story and the first ebook in the 'Lavender Cove Shifters' series. 

Luna Fabray is also a new to me author. So reading a short story by a new to me author is a great way for me to discover new authors. If I like the new author, then I can always read longer works by them in the future... that's if they write anything longer than short stories.

Anyway, I was able to download Alpha Charming by Luna Fabray for FREE from Amazon. Below is my honest, unbiased opinion of Alpha Charming by Luna Fabray.

Alpha Charming by Luna Fabray has an interesting premise for a story, but unfortunately, I didn't feel the author was able to fully develop the storyline and characters to make them interesting enough for my taste. Plus, the cliffhanger ending wasn't something I liked either... I don't want to buy the next installment of the series to see how things turn out. Cliffhanger endings are one of my reading pet peeve.

Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard

 

I listened to the unabridged audio version of Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard and narrated by Rebecca Gibel. Splintered (Splintered #1) is the first novel in the 'Splintered' trilogy and it falls into the young adult genre with dystopian, paranormal romance, and science fiction/fantasy elements mixed in for good measure.

Listening time for Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard is 12 hours, 41 minutes.

Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard is a fun read!! I enjoyed the storyline, characters, the author's writing style and creativity quite a bit. If you love the novel, Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and/or reading a unique, creative retelling of a classic novel/tale, then Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard may be just the novel for you.

Additionally, I was really impressed with Rebecca Gibel's narration skills for Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard and now have a new favorite narrator to add to my list of favorite audiobook narrators.

I downloaded the ebook edition of Tempting the Tiger by Sennah Tate for FREE from Amazon. Below is my honest, unbiased review of this ebook.

Tempting the Tiger by Sennah Tate is the first book in the 'Palm Haven Shifter' series and is a paranormal romance featuring a witch (Sarah) and a human/tiger shapeshifter (Sloan).

Tempting the Tiger by Sennah Tate is a super fast read and is approximately 185 pages in length... The setting revolves around Sarah, a shy, book obsessed librarian and the library where she works. Sloan becomes the new, sexy library director... But there is something about Sloan that Sarah doesn't trust. Sexual tension is high between Sarah and Sloan from the start of this ebook, but turns predictable from the get go. The predictability, insta-love between the main characters, and the plot left me wanting more substance from this book.

The Avery Nolan Adventures by ML Hamilton

Always on the lookout for new to me authors, I decided to download the unabridged audio version of The Avery Nolan Adventures by ML Hamilton and narrated by Kelley Hazen, which is an omnibus containing all four novels in the Avery Nolan series.

Listening time for The Avery Nolan Adventures by ML Hamilton is 30 hours, 1 minute.

Kelley Hazen is a really good narrator. She made listening to Avery Nolan series worthwhile. I also enjoyed listening all four books in one collection verses having to my each novel separately!

Although I generally like paranormal romance novels, I thought The Avery Nolan Adventures by ML Hamilton was just okay overall. The writing is decent and so is the world building. However, I wasn't overly wowed by the Avery Nolan series. Many of the characters were fun to read about... Plus, the narration of this series made the Avery Nolan enjoyable.

The writing and storyline started out really well for Daxton. I liked the main characters. I also liked the tension and and some of the drama... BUT how the drama was handled seemed a bit unrealistic. Additionally, the ending for Daxton was abrupt and felt rushed, which made it lose points with me.

I thought Dietrich by Becca Fanning was an okay read. It is the first read in the Bear Dating Agency Series and contains bear shifters. I thought the writing was okay and so was the storytelling. Let's just say that this short story is forgettable... I read Dietrich a few days ago and I am already forgetting quite a bit of the plot details. I'll skip reading the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed reading All About The Bear. The writing is good/solid. The characters are fun. The storyline and plot details make for fun reading... And there is even some humorous scenes. I enjoyed that there is no cliffhanger ending either. Just a fun easy, breezy, no drama summer read!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this paranormal romance as I think Mad About The Dragon may be the first of anything I've read with a dragon shifter in it. I like paranormal romances in general, but one featuring a dragon shifter would normally not be ones I am drawn to generally. 

With than said, I thought Mad About The Dragon by Selene Griffin was so-so. I am also NOT interested in reading the rest of the  'Dragon In My Heart Series'. The writing was so-so, the main character, Maia, wasn't consistent in her thinking/actions, and one of the major plot details didn't make sense as to how it could have happened... I don't want to go into the details of that plot snafu as it may be too much of a spoiler for those that may still want to read, Mad About The Dragon by Selene Griffin. 

Additionally, there's plenty of tension in Mad About The Dragon, loads of action, and a lot of romance, but nothing about this novella would motivate me to keep reading the series... Oh, and the ending of for Mad About The Dragon by Selene Griffin is flat, blah, boring.

I enjoy reading paranormal romances off and on as the mood strikes me. I recently enjoyed reading a paranormal romance short story titled, Snowfall by McKenna Dean, which I downloaded to my Kindle for FREE from Amazon. Snowfall by McKenna Dean is approximately 38 pages in length.

McKenna Dean is a new to me author. I enjoy reading short stories by new to me authors as this gives me a way to discover new authors without taking a big risk in reading full length novels. 

As far as short stories go, I thought Snowfall by McKenna Dean was a good one. I frequently find short stories to be hit or miss for me. However, with that said, I thought the characters were well developed for Snowfall by McKenna Dean. I also enjoyed the dialogue and interaction between the two main characters as well. There wasn't a bad case of insta-love and no cliffhanger ending for this short story. These are all good signs of a well written short story to me.

I was in the mood for a paranormal romance novella, so I downloaded The Merman's Kiss by Tamsin Ley to my Kindle for FREE from Amazon. Below is my honest, unbiased review of The Merman's Kiss by Tamsin Ley.

Okay, I'm a sucker for mermaids (and mermen too!!) and the idea of a human woman having a romance with a merman sounded like it could be a fun romance story to read about. I have to give the author, Tamsin Ley, credit for her underwater world building as it was well done.... Otherwise, I wasn't overly impressed with The Merman's Kiss by Tamsin Ley. The main characters, Briana and Zantu, have a bad case of insta-love early on, which was an unrealistic way to begin a romance. The storyline was predictable with the usual drama that pulls the main characters apart and some major events that create tension in the storyline... But the typical happy ending happens... So no surprise there!!

Even Tree Nymphs Get The Blues is a paranormal romance novella and is part of the Mystic Bayou series. In fact, it is listed as the 2.5th read in this series. I have listened to another audiobook by Molly Harper, but it wasn't part of the Mystic Bayou series... It was titled, I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas and is part of the Half-Moon Hollows series.

I thought the narrators, Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis, for Even Tree Nymphs Get The Blues by Molly Harper were good... However, that's the best think I enjoyed about this novella. The storyline, plot development, and characters were just so-so in my opinion. I will not continue with the Mystic Bayou series.

Lyric's Accidental Mate by Elle Boon is the third book I've read by Elle Boon. It's also the first book in the Iron Wolves MC Series. If you enjoy paranormal romances, then this novel may be the one for you.

Although I've enjoyed reading other books by Elle Boon, Lyric's Accidental Mate by Elle Boon missed the mark for me. Sure there's some pretty hot sex scenes... And Rowan Shade sounds like a hottie. 

Overall though, the storyline, characters, and writing for Lyric's Accidental Mate by Elle Boon were so-so. I felt like the male characters were really sexist in their views of women and sex. Other plot details needed more flushing out in my opinion as well. Also, the abrupt ending for Lyric's Accidental Mate was awful. Additionally, some minor editing work needed to be done in a few areas of Lyric's Accidental Mate by Elle Boon.

In general, I like reading paranormal romances/erotica novellas and novels when they are done well. I enjoyed the premise and storyline behind Once Upon A Tiger by Kat Simons. The writing itself was okay, although some minor editing work needed to be done. The characters were decent. But overall, I felt like the storyline needed more punch to it. 

Once Upon A Tiger by Kat Simons was simply an okay read for me... An afternoon reading escape. I won't be continuing with the Tiger Shifters Series.

I liked Taming The Alpha by Savannah Stuart. The writing was good for this type of genre. The characters and storyline were entertaining as well. So if you like paranormal romances/erotica with werewolf shape shifters, then this may be the read for you.

Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey

I listened to the unabridged audio version of Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey and narrated by Kevin T. Collins and Natasha Soudek. Winter's Guardian is the first novel in a series and is a paranormal romance that deals with supernatural beings like vampires, werewolves, and angels. Winter's Guardian is also the last novel I read during the month of October.

Listening time for Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey is 5 hours, 56 minutes.

I didn't care much for the narrators for Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey. I felt like Natasha Soudek narrated too slowly and Kevin T. Collins narrated too swiftly. Also, there were times while listening to this novel being narrated that it was difficult to figure out which characters were speaking because of the narration, which made for a confusing read at times.

I like paranormal romance novels generally, but I didn't enjoy how juvenile/immature the storyline and/or characters seemed to be at times. Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey seemed more geared to young adults or for those in college than older adults.

Also the ending for Winter's Guardian by G. Bailey, was so so... And because Winter's Guardian is the first novel in a series, the ending purposely hooks you into wanting to read the next novel in the series... This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want to read the next novel in the series. But quite frankly, I am not interested in reading the rest of this series after reading Winter's Guardian.
