50/50 Friday Novel Worth/Not Worth the Hype

50/50 Friday is a meme hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reads and Karen @ Blue Eye Books. This fun themed meme focuses on the opposite sides of books (best/worst, differing opinions, etc). Every week a new topic will give bloggers the chance to showcase their answers.

This week's topic is to highlight Novels Worth/Not Worth the Hype!

I read The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian in 2012.
What an amazing read!! Sherman Alexie is such a
fabulous and talented writer!

A Book Not Worth The Hype

I know there are a lot of Neil Gaiman fans out there.
I'd heard how wonderful The Ocean at the End of the Lane,
but for whatever reason it
just didn't resonate with me at all.
I just don't understand the hype surrounding this novel.

  1. I've not read either of these but have heard good things about both. I like this feature. I read The 5th Wave and everyone loved it and I couldn't stand it and didn't think it was worth the hype. When I think over over-hyped books for me, that one always comes to mind.

  2. Alexie is wonderful - definitely deserves reading! Gaiman is one of my favorites - I would have preferred getting to know the Hempstead women more in that novel.

  3. I remember reading the Sherman Alexie book for English class one year and I really enjoyed it. I agree, it was worth the hype!

  5. I read The Ocean at the End of the Lane and I can understand why it's such a polarizing book! If I had just casually reading it, I think I would have hated it but I was reading it for a class and we were analyzing it which actually made it so much better for me (usually it's the other way around!). Thanks for linking up, Lisa!

    1. I think perhaps if I'd been in your English class analyzing this novel, I would have enjoyed in more too.
