Top Ten Tuesday --- Top Ten Resolutions I Have For 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

1. Return to school this year and complete the paralegal certificate program through UC Berkeley before the year is up. New career here I come!!

2. Last year my goal was to read 100 books... This was a really ambitious goal. I read a lot of great books in 2015, but far too many of the books weren't that great to be quite frank about it. So, I'd rather focus on quality reads in 2016 as I may not have a lot of time to devote to reading for pleasure once I start the paralegal certificate program. So, I'd like to focus my attention on my 'to be read' pile and select the books that I've been really wanting to read for the past couple of years.

3. Continue to improve my knitting skills this year. My goal is to knit my very first sweater in 2016! I have already selected the pattern, the yarn and knitting tools already to make a sweater... So, here's to knitting my very 1st sweater this year.

4. Continue to strive for optimal health. I've been dealing with leaky gut syndrome for the past couple of years. I'm committed to healing my gut completely asap.

5. Implement the tools/techniques I learned while listening to The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg and Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen.

6. Find a part-time job or volunteer position while attending school.

7. Visit the San Francisco Center for the Book in 2016. This was on my list of places to visit in 2015, but never made it to the San Francisco Center for the Book for a visit.

8. Buy no more books in 2016!! I have way to many books in my personal collection that I've yet to read. If I receive books as a gift that's another issue. I will gladly accept books into my reading repertoire. I made the resolutions of not buying anymore books as one of my resolutions in the past couple of years, but have yet to be able to keep my resolution. So, I am hoping that this year I can refrain from buying any more books or downloading freebies from Amazon until I've read more of books I currently have on hand.

9. Find new bookcases to house my permanent collection of books.

10. Start journaling again on a regular basis.

  1. Goals for 2015? Lol

Again, I wish you tons of luck with school. You can definitely do it! Also, I'll send many prayers and positive energy your way about your health issues.

And no more buying books? Eek...good luck. However, it could be done! Last year I only bought 5 books and that was because I was at the Festival of Books. My other new books that I got were gifts or bought with gift cards. Like you said, that's another issue.

    1. Thank you for the well wishes for school and my health.

Buying no more books this year may prove to be a pipe dream as I have received some gift cards to buy books!! Plus, if a local bookstore has an author I'm interested in, I may be breaking down and buying a copy of the book to have him or her sign!!

  2. Nice! I always admire the people who strive not to buy any new books until old ones are read. I'm the reader who buys them as they release to support the authors. I fear a series might be cancelled otherwise, and it has happened!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. I'll probably put my goal post - just book related though - next week. Non-book related, though, I also want to make my first sweater this year, crochet. Also want to start trying to journal again on a regular basis, I'm so bad at it.

Hope your year is fantastic! :)

That's so cool that you crochet!! I started knitting about 1.5 years ago and been doing it off and on. Good luck with making your 1st sweater.

I use to be really good at keeping a journal, until 2008 when I stopped keeping a personal journal altogether. Prior to 2008, I'd kept a jouranl for 25 years!!

  4. I worked as a paralegal for years. There is a lot to it and it really is fascinating work. I hope that you enjoy it too. I have a goal to not spend money on books this year too. I have entirely too many books already and between that and review copies, I should be good. Best of luck with your goals.

  5. Wonderful goals.
I wish you the best of luck, especially with going back to school that is a great goal :)
I would love to say that i won't be buying books in 2016, because i will be moving soon and books are just not the best thing to have a huge amount of when you are moving across country, but i already bought some this year so yeah that would be a complete fail for me. But i really hope that you have a much stronger willpower then i have and manage it. I really do wish you luck with that :)

    Great list :)

  6. Good luck with school! I am almost done my degree, and though it's been hard, it's really been worth it to go back.

I totally need to learn to knit. One of these days, I'll get onto it...

  13. Oh, #8 is so hard! It has not worked for me in the past either. It sounds simple when I look at all the lovely books already in my home on January 1st...but then I hear about another fabulous book coming out (or a new book by a favorite author) and my resolve wavers! I use my library a lot, but that doesn't exactly help me read more from my shelves, even if it does help curb the purchases!

I'm trying something new this year though. Instead of going cold turkey, I decided I'm OK with new purchases as long as I actually read them. To help with that I joined 2 challenges: Show Your Shelves Some Love AND Read the Books You Buy -- and I'm hoping the combination of those will keep me accountable :)

  14. I also have more than enough books in my personal collection but it's SO HARD not to buy more books. Probably because I also read books based on my mood so sometimes I feel like I don't have the right book at the right moment. But hopefully I can stick to buying books ONLY as I'm about to read them. Fingers crossed!

  15. Great goals. Although buying no books...wow! I don't think I could do that. A strong limit perhaps (like 10 books or $50, etc) but none?! I don't have the strength. Even though I have more than enough books to keep me busy for a few years.

    1. I should have put a limit on the amount of books I purchase this year. That would have been more realistic!
