Congratulations to Canadian, poet and essayist, Anne Carson!!
Once again, we have another year where I've never even heard of the Nobel in Literature winner before!! I don't think I'll be running out to read her works as I'm not a huge fan of poetry, nor essays.
I read online that Anne Carson was selected as the winner “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature”.

I was sad to hear another poet winning the prize, same as you, I'm not a fan of poetry, essays, anything short. Give me a huge tome!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved for Joyce Carol Oates to win, or, as you mentioned elsewhere, Margaret Atwood. But since this is a North American woman, we will have to wait a couple of years until those two can be considered.
And no, I had never heard of her before and don't know anyone who does.
Keeping fingers crossed that either Atwood or Oates wins the Nobel Prize soon. They aren't getting any younger.
DeleteNo, they won't, but next year will be a guy again whose mother tongue is not English.
DeleteWishful thinking on my part.
DeleteI join you there.
