The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

Advance Reader's Edition
I received an advance reader's edition of The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel from GoodReads Giveaways for Free in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. The Roanoke Girls is the first novel I've read by Amy Engel.

I read The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel in three days. Wow, just wow, Amy Engel's writing is really, really good!! She's a great storyteller and love the way in which Ms. Engel tells the story of the Roanoke girls... Ms. Engel weaves the past and the present in alternating chapters, along with a single short chapter about each Roanoke girl (accept for Lane Roanoke as she is the leading character of the novel) interspersed throughout the novel.

I loved the characters within The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel. They are flawed and damaged and really well written... There are dark and twisted family secrets in The Roanoke Girls. I came to dislike Gran and Granddad Roanoke for reasons that I don't want to discuss at this time as it would be a spoiler for those who've yet to read this novel. My favorite characters from The Roanoke Girls are Lane Roanoke and Cooper Sullivan.

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel will be released on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. I highly recommend reading this novel.

The following is a plot summary for The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel from Amazon:
“Roanoke girls never last long around here. In the end, we either run or we die.”
After her mother's suicide, fifteen year-old Lane Roanoke came to live with her grandparents and fireball cousin, Allegra, on their vast estate in rural Kansas. Lane knew little of her mother's mysterious family, but she quickly embraced life as one of the rich and beautiful Roanoke girls. But when she discovered the dark truth at the heart of the family, she ran…fast and far away.
Eleven years later, Lane is adrift in Los Angeles when her grandfather calls to tell her Allegra has gone missing. Did she run too? Or something worse? Unable to resist his pleas, Lane returns to help search, and to ease her guilt at having left Allegra behind. Her homecoming may mean a second chance with the boyfriend whose heart she broke that long ago summer. But it also means facing the devastating secret that made her flee, one she may not be strong enough to run from again.
As it weaves between Lane’s first Roanoke summer and her return, The Roanoke Girls shocks and tantalizes, twisting its way through revelation after mesmerizing revelation, exploring the secrets families keep and the fierce and terrible love that both binds them together and rips them apart.
I am giving The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel a rating of 5 stars out of 5 stars. The Roanoke Girls is the 34th book I've read this year and is only the second book I've given a 5 star rating during 2017.

Until my next post, happy reading!!

  1. This sounds really cool! I'm glad you loved the writing. That's one of the things that absolutely makes a book for me :) When I hear the word Roanoke, I immediately think of that island where all of the people disappeared and even though it sounds like this book doesn't have much to do with that, it still makes me want to read it! I'll definitely be sure to check this out when it's released! Lovely review :)
