1. I love listening to audiobooks! In fact, audiobooks have only recently become one of my favorite ways to savor books in the past few years. There's something special about listening to someone else read a book to you that makes one's experience with books all that much better.
2. I consider myself to be a 'Polygamist Reader', which according to an article on Bustle titled 13 Types Of Readers Everyone Knows, Because We Aren't All Alike by Sadie L. Trombetta, is defined as:
You might have trouble keeping track of more than one story at once, but there is a certain type of reader who loves to juggle multiple books at once. Their nightstand is like your television queue — full of things you're part of the way through covering every kind of genre. They like to keep things interesting, and multitasking is their most beloved trait.I do tend to read more than one book at a time and I also tend to read books from a wide range of genres.
3. I enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers... And cozy mystery novels fall into one of my most recent favorite sub-genres in the mystery genre.
4. The two authors I would most like to meet in real life at an author event/book signing would be Diana Gabaldon and Margaret Atwood. I have yet to met these authors and I've really enjoyed reading their novels over the years.
5. My biggest pet peeve while reading, is being bothered/interrupted while reading. Usually, I'm really engrossed in what I'm reading and I want time to focus on my reading and enjoy the content provided by an author. So, if I'm interrupted for whatever reason, it disrupts the follow of the book/novel I'm reading
6. As far as reading habits go, I usually don't eat a snack or drink a beverage while reading a physical book as I find it somewhat awkward to eat or drink while flipping pages of a physical book... However, eating food or drinking a beverage while listening to an audiobook is something I do frequently. Also, I usually read at home or read while traveling on a plane, train, or other type of public transportation.
7. I love visiting independent bookstores, attending author events/book signings, and book festivals.
8. Recently, I've been on a kick/streak to visit Little Free Libraries. They are fun to visit as I like leaving books inside of them.
9. I am an avid fan of Bookcrossing!! I've been a member of Bookcrossing since January 2007 and enjoy interacting with other avid readers and book lovers via the Bookcrossing forum section or through private messages... Plus, I've enjoyed sharing books with other avid readers around the world through Bookcrossing and learning what they think about the same books that I've enjoyed reading.
10. I am enjoying nonfiction reads more these days than works of fiction.
I have to be in the right mood for an audiobook, but when I am, I love them! :) You're right, it can be so much fun to listen to them. :D
ReplyDeleteLately I've been trying to read just one book at a time, but I often read several books at once and it definitely makes things more interesting! A wide variety of genres is great too. :D
I've lately started to have an "upstairs book" in my bedroom and a "downstairs book" in the living room, so wherever I am when I have some time to read, I can get to it. And now I want to go read that article; sounds like fun! Margaret Atwood would be a very interesting person to meet for sure.
ReplyDeleteI also adore audiobooks. I honestly think my toddler has such a great vocabulary because of audiobooks in the car. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
Little Free Libraries are so fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love indie bookstores (or any bookstore, to be honest) but finding a good indie is a great thing. Same with a good used bookstore, which seem to be harder to find these days. And I've recently discovered cozies too (last year or so) and have enjoyed several.
ReplyDeleteI've recently fallen into the audiobooks world as well! I haven't read that many and usually only utilize them for re-reading, but I'm going to be commuting to university next year and figure I'll listen to them to pass the time. Reading is definitely easier when you're not eating - I used to a year or two ago, but I've fallen out of the habit. And unfortunately, I have yet to see a Little Free Library in real life, but I see them on social media sometimes and they look like they're the best.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've never heard of BookCrossing before but I just looked up the site and it looks like such a wonderful idea! Great list!
I also have to be in the right mood for an audiobook. Also, if the narrator stinks that's a deal breaker for me!
ReplyDeleteNice list! I, too, get annoyed if someone interrupts my reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how your entire list is book-related. I've been a Bookcrosser (debnance) since 2002, and I also have a Little Free Library in front of my house and I've built five more for neighborhoods around my school.
ReplyDeleteBased on the definition you shared, I am also a polygamist reader. And I have never listened to an audio book. I just downloaded a couple of audio book apps on my phone though, I get motion sickness if I tried to read in a moving vehicle and am hoping to listen to audio books now on longer trips.
ReplyDeleteYES!! #5!! I've snapped at my husband when he started talking to me right at the climax. I still don't think I'm forgiven. :(
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of Book Crossing!! But since I rarely read physical books anymore, it's probably not something I would get into...
I've never gotten "into" audiobooks though perhaps someday I'll try them. :) Also, I'm not much of a snack reader. I don't know why, but I'm just not. Too engrossed in the story I suppose! Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland. :)
ReplyDeleteI too LOVE audiobooks, especially when the actual author is reading from their own novel. Neil Gaiman does this for most of his books and I just love it. I also can read various books at the same time, and I usually read different genres at the same time. I have never heard of Book Crossing and I will now have to check it out. Thank you for sharing all these lovely facts about yourself and for stopping over at The Plot Bunny.
ReplyDeleteUgh, getting interrupted is the worst! Especially when I'm reading non-fiction, though. I need to concentrate.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the heck Bookcrossing is but it sounds like something I would like! I will definitely be following that link in your post!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like we have polar-opposite reading habits! I tried but could never get into audiobooks, other than the amazing Harry Potter ones, but that's probably because I already know the story; my mind tends to drift when I listen to audiobooks and I totally lose track of the story. I love eating a snack or at least drinking coffee or tea while reading. And I have a one-track mind that just cannot handle more than one book at at time, even if one is fiction and the other non-fiction. It's so funny how everyone is different -- but we're all united in our love for reading! :)
AUDIOBOOKS ARE A GODSEND! I love listening to them while driving to work and also while eating (same as you!) and coloring or doing repetitive stuff that doesn't really require thinking.
ReplyDeleteI also read multiple books at the same time because 1) is an audiobook 2) an ebook or physical book that I read before sleeping 3) may or may not be another ebook or audiobook that is a different genre than the other two I am reading.
I'm not really into audiobooks. I wish I was though. Lovely to know more about you.
ReplyDeleteOh god, I HATE being interrupted while reading, too. But really, who doesn't? It's the WORST when I basically feel like I'm IN the story with the characters and then I someone says something to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat list of facts! :)
