Anne Rice Re-Releases Her "Sleeping Beauty" Erotica Trilogy

Thirty years before the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy made it big, Anne Rice had published her own erotica trilogy under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure. Now Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy --- The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty’s Punishment and Beauty’s Release is being re-released.

CBC News has published an article titled Anne Rice re-releases her erotic trilogy. In the CBC News article, it states the following:
Rice said she’d begun reading the Fifty Shades of Grey novels and speculated they are seeing a such popularity because women feel more comfortable expressing a wider range of sexuality now than they did 30 years ago.
“I think people are much more open and frank about this kind of fiction because they feel empowered,” she said.

I've not read either the Sleeping Beauty trilogy or the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Has anyone else read either trilogy and if so, what did you think about the trilogy?

Frankly, I didn't even know Anne Rice wrote an erotica trilogy!!

  1. Without a doubt one of my favorites in that genre. I own the old school hardbacks! :)

  2. I have read the first book and am starting on the second. It really is well written, but if the BDSM isn't your thing, STAY AWAY. It'll just make you pissy.

  4. I read this series back before I knew Anne Rice had been the author. Lots better than the 50 Shades trilogy. Way more erotic! Very graphic.... She wrote a few more too and they are awesome. The BDSM in the Shades trilogy is very mild compared to Anne's books. I agree with Grace...if you don't care for that style you don't want to read these.

  5. ive read the Beauty trilogy and it has got to be some of my favorite erotica ever. I great twist on a well known fairytale it pushes the boundries of what is erotica. Although im not really into the whole BD/SM scene i still enjoyed it. It far out classes fifty shades of grey both in its style and its content.

  6. One hell of a ride, this Trilogy. I haven't read Fifty Shades yet, but Ms Rice was ahead of her time with this, 'Sleeping Beauty' story(IMHO). BDSM may not be your schtick, but you might just be surprised, as I was, how this story may open up facets of your own character you either didn't know existed, or were afraid to ask...;)

  7. Her trilogy was the first I read when I was in my teens. I loved them then (even tho mom found them and took them away) and I love them now. Quite an eye opener for people just getting into BDSM. One of the best erotica series I've ever read (and I've read quite a few). Well written and the characters captivate you with each page. A lovely piece of written work. Love you Ann Rice!

  8. I read the books when they first came out and now, with the knowledge and permission of Anne Rice, I am producing a short ballet based on the trilogy in San Francisco -- September 14 and 15.

It is very difficult to capture the sprawling story and many characters, so I am concentrating on Beauty, the Prince and Queen Eleanor.

Anyway, the books and ballet both had a profound effect on me. It is gratifying to try to bring them both together.

    1. I love watching performing arts, especially ballet! That's cool you're doing a ballet based on Anne Rice's trilogy.

Good with the ballet production. I wish you lots of success.
