Loss of a Family Member of the Furry Persuasion

Roxy
We lost a furry, four legged family member earlier this week. Our beloved pet dog, a Pomeranian named Roxy, passed away unexpectedly. So, it's been a difficult week for all of us grieving for the loss of our beloved family pet.

We had Roxy since she was a puppy and she enriched our loves in numerous ways. I personally have so many happy, fond memories to remember Roxy by, that I'm trying to focus on the good times, while still going through and honoring the grieving process.

Roxy always had a zest and love for life. She was so smart and learned things quickly. Roxy was also a good companion dog, very loving, and very loyal. We took her nearly everywhere with us as she was truly a member of the family. Roxy most certainly will be missed and remain forever in our hearts. We love you, Roxy!!

The entire notion of pet loss has me wondering if anyone knows of any good books on pet loss that they could recommend?

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Roxy! Gosh...my heart breaks for you guys. I completely understand how you feel and I agree that our furry friends are such a big part of our family.

I wish I could recommend any pet loss books but I haven't read of any. I'll ask around.

  2. Oh I am so sorry to hear that! I don't know of any nonfiction books about pet loss, but have you ever read Racing in the Rain? It's a book told entirely in the perspective of the dog. That is the best book about animals I have ever read. And of course the end made me cry. A lot.

  3. Yes, I read The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein last year and loved it. It was one of my favorite reads of 2013 and I found myself crying several times throughout this novel. I'd love to read this novel again, but will have to wait awhile now.

  4. I am sorry to read about this. I dread losing my cats.. or making the decision to put them down. So hard. I almost put my cat down about 1 year ago. I thought he was so sick, but we tried a new pill and he is still kicking.

    2. Losing a pet is no fun for sure!! Roxy was cremated and picking up her ashes from the vet's office brought fresh tears to my eyes! Her ashes are in a cedar box with a brass name plate on top. The vet's office also made a paw print of Roxy's paw and saved some of her fur for us.
