Top Ten Tuesday --- Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read For The First Time In 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

    1. I listened to the unabridged audio version of The Dispatcher by John Scalzi and it was very thought provoking. I gave it a 5 star rating.

  4. I heartily endorse your idea of trying John Scalzi, one of my newer (though not new-to-2016) favorite authors. You might enjoy starting with the Old Man's War series, or with Lock In plus its novella prequel Unlocked. He's particular good at combining very resourceful characters with well-constructed plots, and then throwing in moments that gut you with their poignancy.

I'm pretty sure that I first read Naomi Novik this year, and she's now one of those authors whose books I read over and over when not consumed by something else. Another great 2016 find: Emma Newman (Planetfall and After Atlas).

  7. Interesting! I haven't read any of those authors, though I've had Haruki Murakami on my "probably should read one of these days" lists for a while now. :)

    1. There's been talk that Haruki Murakami has been a front runner to win the Nobel Prize for Literature the past few years, but he has yet to win this literary prize.... Because Haruki Murakami has been predicted to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, I thought it might be wise to read one of his novels.
